Oops! Don't do it again!

Today I was reminiscing about the good ol' days when Britney Spears was my fashion role model and it was an unspoken decision that pleather pants was an apprpriate fashion trend for middle school girls! I wish I could find a picture of my sister or I wearing our pleather pants! I remember when I JUST HAD  to have a pair. Mine were a horrid t red and my sisters were a snake skin print. It was quite possibly my worst fashion choice as a youngster, but boy did I love those pants.

Oy vey! At least I didn't shave my head bald!

Pop Qwiz! What'll pop up next?

So Brett and I are having a little movie marathon tonight and I was thinking about popping some popcorn while he made some tea. And then I randomly thought of Pop Qwiz popcorn! Who else remembers this fun food from the early 90's?? I wonder why they stopped making it? Guess it must not have sold well, but I sure did love it, or maybe I just love the memory of it! What other foods do you remember from the 90's that they don't make anymore?

This is a fun one!

Ok, so this post is going to be short and sweet. I just found this old game that I used to love to play on Sega. The name of the game is, Cool Spot. And in it you play the red spot from the 7Up logo. I would love to play it right now. I'm definitely going to have to track down a Sega console and purchase a copy! Does anyone else remember this game?? If not, I know you've got to have a favorite game from Sega, what is it? I used to also love to play Aladdin, X-men, and of course SONIC!

I hope everyone is having a great Friday night!

"It is the most scrumdiddlyumptious story.”

Does anyone else remember this sensational read by Roald Dahl??

"I is the only nice and jumbly Giant in Giant Country. I is the Big Friendly Giant. I is The BFG!"

This is what The BFG says to the little orphan girl, Sophie, after plucking her from her bedroom window and taking her to his home in Giant country. He also explains to Sophie that he collects good dreams in Dream Country and at the "witching hour" he goes through the streets and blows these good dreams into the windows of children.

This book was a reading assignment in 5th grade and still remains one of my favorites until this day. I love this story of The BFG and Sophie's adventures together. The BFG has an awful time with grammar and often misuses words. I've snagged some of his more humorous words and phrases for personal use and when the moment is right I giddily pull one out!

I HOPE that some of you have had the pleasure of reading this funny, and heartfelt tale. If so please share your favorite part of the book or your favorite word or phrase used by The BFG. :) I would say that the word that I still use most often would be "disgusterous". I highly recommend The BFG to anyone who hasn't read it and suggest reading it to your children or any youngsters in your life. I hope to get some feedback and discussions going on this post, so don't be shy!
I almost forgot to mention that there was also a movie made from the book that I thoroughly enjoyed as well. But I'm one to always choose the book over the movie adaption but if reading isn't your thing you can check out the movie!

What's this blog about anyway?? with *Kickoff Contest**

Alright readers, I wanted to do a fun introductory so you can get to know about  me and  my blog and I can find out who you are! Also, I really wanted a unique graphic for my blog. I wanted something original and something that will represent my blog well.

Hi, I'm Britt, this is my fiancĂ©e Brett and my son Zane.
Anything you want to know about me, just send me a
message or post your question in a comment and I'll be
happy to share, but I won't bore you with the usual introduction.
I'll just start with 10 facts:
  • My mom and my 5 sisters are the best friends that I will ever have.
  • I love to try out new crafts and diy projects. Check out my sisters great diy blog if you share our passion http://thedoityourselfdiva.blogspot.com
  • My guilty pleasure is some good trashy television.
  • I love to do pilates, yoga, and zumba!
  • Currently the biggest obstacle in my life is trying to "get over" my dad's sudden death last year.
  • Music is my weakness. I can easily get lost in Mozart, Incubus, Mumford and Sons, The Beatles, Lady Gaga, etc. I'll listen to anything once.
  • This is my first blog and I'm actually really feeling good about it so far.
  • I adore Audrey Hepburn, her acting, her philanthropy, and her love of life.
  • My New Years Resolution was to be more reliable to everyone I love.
  • On a normal day you would catch me wearing a band tshirt, jeans, and my Vans. But sometimes for no reason at all I just love getting all dolled up.

Here's a little blurb about the focus of my first blog. I'm not limiting my posts to this but it will be primarily what to expect.

Retro Treasures is mainly going to be focused on the memories that are sparked from my childhood while raising my son. As my son, Zane, grows more and more each day I often find myself thinking back to all the things I loved and enjoyed when I was his age. I wanted to document all these memories as a keepsake for myself and Zane. And I thought that starting a blog would be the best way to do that because not only is it a great way to compile ideas but it's also a way to to fondly look back on the good times that were had with the blogging community!

So here is what the contest will be. For you readers to design a graphic for Retro Treasures and when you submit your graphic also tell me 10 interesting things about you starting with your favorite movie/toy/tv show from your childhood. I will pick the best graphic and and when I put it up I will post a blog about the winner and their childhood favorites! I have no rules, with the exception of keeping things appropriate. The deadline will be February 17th...until then Happy Blogging!

And I said what about Breakfast at Tiffany's

I've always been known to have an "old soul". Although I'm only 24, I love classical music, theater, and of course classic movies. Breakfast at Tiffany's happens to be my favorite movie of all time. In it, Audrey Hepburn takes on the role of Holly Golightly, a free spirit living in New York City. Holly portrays herself not to be concerned with love or commitment but in the end that's what she has been needing the entire time. She falls in love with the handsome, Paul Varjak. The movie gets it's title from a day that she and Paul spend a day together, where they take turns doing things in which they've never done before. During this day, they stumble into Tiffany's and have a Cracker Jack Box ring engraved. Such a simple and endearing romance scene. There are many more details and quite a bit of drama involving the mob, a nameless cat, New York City parties, and finding out Holly isn't who she says she is!
If you haven't seen it I insist you do so now, it will forever remain in your heart!

And in closing, I'll leave you with a sweet melody from the soundtrack!

"Not the Mama!"

Ok, it only lasted three years, but I would argue that Dinosaurs was one of the best shows I watched growing up. In the mid 90's this awesome show aired on ABC. I think every child of the 90's remembers Baby Sinclair whacking his father, Earl, over the head with a frying pan and declaring that he was "not the mama!" I can't help but smile while thinking about it. I hope you all enjoy the memories and maybe even invest in a few seasons to enjoy with your friends, siblings, and children! I know I am :)

What was your favorite tv show from the 90's??
